Welcome to the Hellenic Balint Groups’ website

Welcome to the website of the Hellenic Balint Groups, the purpose of which is to promote the theory and practice of Balint groups in Greece.

Balint groups that are named after the psychoanalysts Michael and Enid Balint who formed in the 1950s in the UK the first groups for general practitioners, are based on the presentation and discussion of cases from the clinical practice of health professionals and aim at the enhancement of the therapeutic relationship through the understanding of its emotional content and the way in which this content affects the treatment.

The interested public of Balint groups consists primarily of medical doctors, but also includes psychologists, nurses, social workers and generally professionals that are involved in a caregiving relationship.

If you are a health professional and are interested in the psychological aspects of your work and the relationship with your patients, do not hesitate to contact us by phone at +30 210 8016431 or by email at [email protected] and learn more about Balint groups.

Accreditation of the first Balint group leader in Greece

On 10 May 2014 the Council of the british Balint Society granted the accreditation of Balint group leader to Mrs. Lida Bitrou after the completion of her training. This is the first case in which a leader is trained by a foreign Balint society for the sole purpose of organizing and coordinating groups in Greece, thus paving the way to the training of other group leaders. The training addressed to doctors, psychologists and other health professionals, is based on the participation of the trainee in a Balint group as a member, leading of groups and supervision of his/her work with an accredited group leader.

Those interested in training can contact the Hellenic Balint Group. READ MORE »
